New Apprentice and Trainee Program to Drive Completions - 50% Wage Subsidy available

Apprentices and Trainees Queensland (ATQLD) welcomes the Australian Federal Governments new initiative ‘Completing Apprenticeship Commencements’ (CAC). The CAC is a supplement to the ‘Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements’ (BAC). Businesses with an eligible Australian Apprentice or Trainee signed up under the BAC program.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

If a business has commenced or commences by 30th June 2022, an apprentice or trainee they may be eligible for Federal Government wage subsidies. Under the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements, employers or ATQLD can apply for a wage subsidy of up to 50% of an apprentice or trainees gross wage, up to $7,000 per quarter for 12 months. So, you may be able to claim a total of $28,000 for an eligible apprentice or trainee.

The Federal Government has recently announced the Completing Apprenticeship Commencement, which is an additional wage subsidy of up to 10% of an apprentice or trainees gross wage, up to $1,500 per quarter for the 2nd year of apprenticeship or traineeship. So, in addition to the BAC you may be able to claim a further $6,000 for an eligible apprentice or trainee.

And under the Completing Apprenticeship Commencements, an additional wage subsidy of up to 5% of an apprentice or trainees gross wage, up to $750 per quarter for the 3rd year of an apprenticeship. So, in addition to the $28,000 for the first year and $6,000 for the second year, eligible employers could receive a further $3,000.
A total life cycle wage subsidy for apprentices and trainees under the two programs is $37,000.
